As Boston Red Sox legend David Ortiz recovers, those who worked tirelessly to save his life are being recognized for their efforts.

Ortiz's wife, Tiffany Ortiz, thanked the doctors for their life-saving efforts in her latest statement on the ex-slugger's health.

"To the amazing surgeons, medical team, and staff at the Abel Gonzalez Clinic in the Dominican Republic, there are no words to express our gratitude for the amazing care you provided," she said. "Without you, our story could have had a tragic ending. You will forever be our guardian angels."

She went on to say that the baseball icon is still in intensive care, that he continues to make progress in his recovery from surgery, and that additional updates on his health "will be provided as necessary."

The heroic work those surgeons did to save Ortiz's life shouldn't be lost on anyone. They're the reason that he's still alive and breathing, and Tiffany Ortiz rightfully heaped praise on them for their efforts.

The baseball world owes a great deal of appreciation to those doctors for stabilizing Big Papi in the midst of all the confusion.
