Damian Lillard Refutes Claim That Blazers Gave Enes Kanter 6 Minutes to Re-Sign

The Enes Kanter to Boston story took another interesting turn on Monday when the center came out and spoke about how his first priority was to re-sign with Portland, but they put him on a clock. Six minutes, to be exact.

Seems like an awfully limited amount of time to make a crucial life decision, right?

If this is true, it's a crazy story about a team neglecting to recognize the human aspect of signing a new contract and treating Kanter like just another roster spot.

However, just hours after this claim broke, Trail Blazers point guard Damian Lillard chimed in, saying that the 'six minute' claims were false.

Lillard makes a good point in saying that "sometimes you lose out on two people because you're waiting on one," which is a situation the Blazers were clearly trying to avoid, a possible reference to the team signing Hassan Whiteside. And if it's true that Portland offered Kanter 45 minutes instead of six and Kanter had just run the clock all the way down, that makes for a completely different story.

Kanter seemed to have a strong relationship with his Blazers' teammates during his short tenure on the squad, but his exit from the organization doesn't appear to be as graceful as fans would have hoped. Whether or not he was truly only given six minutes to make up his mind remains unclear, though Lillard's account of things seems to be a bit more trustworthy.
