Even in the middle of a global pandemic, there is always room for an innocent joke on April Fools Day. With moods across the country somber and tense, it's nice when athletes like Damian Lillard, the superstar point guard for the Portland Trail Blazers, provide some comic relief on Twitter during these difficult times.

It started with a Los Angeles Lakers fan account reporting that Lillard was unhappy with the direction of the Portland organization, and wanted out to go play with LeBron James and the Lakers for an NBA championship. Before too many questions were asked, Lillard jumped in on the report with a hilarious shutdown of any rumors that he wants out of Portland.

Lillard could have handled that much more assertively, but it is nice that he saw the funny side of someone just looking to generate attention. Lillard, who has stated numerous times that his intention is to remain with Portland as long as possible, will only help his popularity among Trail Blazers fans by quickly dispatching of a trade rumor, even if it is a joke.

That of course hasn't stopped fans from across the league from making jokes on Twitter about Lillard potentially joining the Lakers. With no concrete date set for sports leagues to return to action, these light-hearted interactions with professional athletes are enthusiastically embraced.
