Dabo Swinney's Comments Prove Alabama Can't Count on Him Replacing Nick Saban
By Brendan Azoff

Dabo Swinney may be a former Alabama wide receiver and assistant coach, but he was quick to say that those two things do not equate to him becoming the predecessor to Nick Saban when he does leave the Crimson Tide.

Dabo Swinney may want to coach his alma mater deep down, but realistically it does not make much sense right now as his Clemson Tigers may be the better program. On top of that, Swinney was given a 10-year, $93 million contract, a massive sum of money for a college football coach.
Swinney's contract features a buyout option regarding him leaving to go to Alabama, but after the head coach's recent remarks, it doesn't appear as if that clause will have to be utilized. Swinney can be bought out of his contract if he leaves for any head coaching position, but would owe Clemson 50% more money if he left for Alabama.

The clause makes it unreasonable for the coach to leave Clemson, especially since the program he has built from the ground up is thriving in the college football playoffs recently.
Although Swinney did not rule out his return to Alabama entirely, the one thing he made clear is that for the near future, he is a Clemson Tiger and wants to remain in South Carolina.
