Cubs' Reported Trade Interest in Jarrod Dyson and Eric Sogard is Beyond Weak for What Chicago Needs

With Christian Yelich and the Milwaukee Brewers not determined to concede the NL Central anytime soon, Joe Maddon and the Chicago Cubs need to make a big acquisition at the deadline in order to fend of their rival and secure another division crown.

Instead of going big game hunting, the Cubs have, according to the latest buzz, decided to turn their attention to...Jarrod Dyson and Eric Sogard?

This is Theo Epstein's big plan to get the Cubs back into World Series contention? A fourth outfielder who doesn't hit well enough to earn regular at-bats and a 33-year-old infielder who won't even start on a regular basis?

Dyson and Sogard are still fine players, with the former having hit six home runs while stealing 21 bases for the Arizona Diamondbacks and the latter in the middle of a career year with the Toronto Blue Jays in which he's hitting .305 with 10 of his 21 career home runs, but this is not the type of move that will make the Brewers and Cardinals shake in their boots.

Maybe adding a top reliever would be a better move?

While having almost no top prospects in their farm system makes trading for a superstar difficult, the Cubs shouldn't relegate themselves to shopping at the dollar store given the situation they find themselves in.
