In the Chicago Cubs' quest to shed payroll, it appears as if the Kris Bryant trade rumors are growing more legs.

According to the latest reports, the Cubs have spoken to the Philadelphia Phillies about a potential deal for the former MVP.

But Bryant comes with baggage, as MLB fans are aware of the service time grievance issue his agent Scott Boras raised over the last few seasons. Additionally, the Phillies, oddly enough, reportedly seem hesitant about trading top third base prospect Alec Bohm.

It could work, after all, because Bryant can play the outfield, but if you're going to trade for him and possibly sign him to a long-term deal, wouldn't you want him playing his natural position?

The Phillies have long been in need of a third baseman with Maikel Franco failing to live up to the hype for years now. With studs like Bryce Harper, JT Realmuto and Rhys Hoskins already front and center in this lineup, the addition of Bryant could make the Phils instant World Series contenders.

But they'll need another pitcher or two to truly make that a reality, so the front office has a lot of work to do regarding various aspects of the roster.
