Cowboys Trade Offer for Jamal Adams Revealed
By Michael Luciano

Now that the Jets' asking price for All-Pro safety and Texas native Jamal Adams has been made public, it's easy to see why the Dallas Cowboys couldn't strike a deal.
The New York Jets, currently the owner of one of the worst offensive lines in all of football, asked for All-Pro guard Zack Martin or Pro Bowl offensive tackle Tyron Smith in a potential Adams deal. Obviously, the Cowboys didn't pull the trigger.
As #Jets S Jamal Adams is set to play and put a tumultuous week behind him, a look back at one key aspect of the almost-trade: The #Jets first asked for #Cowboys Pro Bowl G Zack Martin as part of the return (Dallas said no). That is instructive: https://t.co/HJTjHTiUXk

Adams would have been a transformative force in the Dallas secondary, as safety is clearly a position of need for them, but this team's offense is built around a dominant offensive line, and tearing that apart to bring in a defensive back would be a major miscalculation.
Jets safety Jamal Adams: “That was one of the teams I told him I’d love to go to, the Dallas Cowboys. People got to understand, man, I was born and raised in Dallas. ... Michael Irvin is like my uncle.”

Adams is clearly a top five player at his position, but a Cowboys team gunning for the playoffs understandably was hesitant about parting ways with such a talented lineman. For Dallas, they'll look to make the postseason with the squad they've got, while the Jets and Adams will look to improve on what's been a rough campaign.
