Cowboys Release RB Alfred Morris Following Ezekiel Elliott's Return
By Chris Pyo

When a star player comes back to their team after an injury or a contract holdout, one rotational player inevitably has to take the fall.
In this case, the Dallas Cowboys have released veteran running back Alfred Morris in order to make room for Ezekiel Elliott, who recently signed a contract making him the highest-paid running back in the NFL.
The #Cowboys have released RB Alfred Morris, source said. That makes room on the Week 1 roster for Ezekiel Elliott.

Morris, a two-time Pro Bowler, could still be re-signed by the Cowboys to their practice squad, although it remains to be seen if Morris will receive any interest from other teams around the league, including the Washington Redskins, his former employer.
Alfred Morris would have been entitled to a full guarantee on his $930,000 salary if on roster today at 3 p.m. CT. Cowboys think highly of him. Again, may be short-term absence from roster.

Morris logged 111 carries in San Francisco in 2018, picking up 428 yards and two touchdowns.
Tony Pollard and Jordan Chunn will be providing depth at running back for the Cowboys behind Elliott, who is now prepared to run all over the New York Giants defense in Week 1.
