On Thursday, the Philadelphia Eagles doubled down on their faith in Carson Wentz as their quarterback of the future when it was announced that the organization agreed to a four-year extension worth $128 million, which includes roughly $107 million in guaranteed money.

So, what does all of this mean for the Dallas Cowboys, who have reportedly been in talks with QB Dak Prescott on a contract extension? Well, Wentz's annual salary should absolutely have an impact on the two sides at the negotiating table.

Even though its worth debating if Prescott is worth the $30 million AAV he is reportedly seeking, Jerry and Stephen Jones should pull the trigger while the price is still right. Because, like it or not, that's the price team's have to pay to lock down an high quality signal caller.

The $30 million range isn't too damning considering what Russell Wilson ($35 million), Ben Roethlisberger ($34 million), and Aaron Rodgers ($33.5 million) are raking in. Dallas should pull the trigger now before players like Patrick Mahomes and Andrew Luck are paid and drive up the league's AAV for quarterbacks even more.

Prescott has recorded a 32-16 record with 10,876 passing yards, 67 touchdowns, 25 interceptions and boasts a 96.0 quarterback rating throughout his three years in the league.

Wentz, on the other hand, is 23-17 and entering his fourth season in Philly. He's thrown for 10,152 yards, 70 touchdowns and 28 interceptions, while flaunting a 92.5 quarterback rating. One of the main points of disparity between them is the amount of games played, as Wentz has dealt with injuries throughout much of his young career.

The numbers don't lie, and the fact of the matter is that franchise quarterbacks don't come around very often. And Dallas has one sitting in their laps that is worth the hefty price tag. The time is right for Dak and the Cowboys to finalize an extension and keep Prescott under center for the foreseeable future.
