Countless professional athletes have been using their platform to give back to local communities as the nation continues to reckon with the severity of the coronavirus pandemic.

Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott is the latest to join that growing list. The 24-year-old star took to Instagram this week to announce that he's teaming up with North Texas Food Bank to help expedite the relief efforts in Dallas, and the state of Texas as a whole.

Elliott is also partnering with Centre to launch a collection of apparel that will be available for purchase on Saturday. All of the those proceeds will be matched by Centre to support the North Texas Food Bank, which has been donating meals to those in need and offering jobs to recently laid-off individuals.

The former No. 4 overall pick acknowledged that he hopes to raise a substantial amount of money with this pledge to help those in need out.

There have been shipments of gestures similar to Elliott's since COVID-19 began sweeping the nation, and it's just as refreshing and heartwarming each time news like this breaks. The former Ohio State star deserves a round of applause for this generous act.
