Cowboys Claim 2019 Fifth Round Pick Clayton Thorson After Eagles Cut Him
By Michael Luciano

The Philadelphia Eagles only had five selections in the 2019 NFL draft, and one of them has already turned out to be a complete bust.
The Eagles waived fifth round pick and former Northwestern quarterback Clayton Thorson after an up-and-down preseason that was representative of his college career. He quickly joined a division rival, as the Dallas Cowboys added him to their practice squad.
This is the Cowboys practice squad for now, could be more changes tomorrow, per sources:

DL Daniel Wise
CB Donovan Olumba
CB Mike Jackson
WR Cedrick Wilson
OT Mitch Hyatt
QB Clayton Thorson
LB Chris Covington
RB Mike Weber
RB Jordan Chunn
TE Cole Hikutini
The 6-4, 226-pound Thorson threw for 61 touchdowns and 45 picks during four seasons at Northwestern, including 17 touchdowns and 15 picks during his senior season.
He was an accurate passer short and could deliver the ball accurately through contact, but his average arm strength, poor pocket presence, and subpar accuracy deep downfield ultimately forced the Eagles' hand and led to him being released.
For quarterback, Cowboys elected to add external option to practice squad. They are signing former Eagles QB Clayton Thorson, sources said. Rookie fifth-round pick from Northwestern.

Thorson's role in the NFL is exactly a practice squad quarterback. The Eagles overdrafted him, and now they are paying the price after both burning a pick on him and seeing him take his knowledge of their playbook to the Cowboys.
