At 6-5, the Indianapolis Colts are right in the middle of a tightly-packed AFC playoff picture. In fact, they're just one game behind the Houston Texans (7-4) in the AFC South.

As we hit the final stretch of the 2019 campaign head coach Frank Reich must have his team executing in all facets. However, he will have to do so without one of his most dynamic offensive playmakers.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport understands that tight end Eric Ebron will be placed on season-ending injured reserve to address injuries to both of his ankles.

Injuries have simply been the storyline of the Colts offense in 2019 and the reason they haven't reached their full potential. All of Jacoby Brissett, TY Hilton, Marlon Mack, and now Ebron, among others, have been shelved at some point.

Ebron has expectedly regressed after his sensational 2018 campaign, but he's still one of the most lethal red zone threats in the league. Playing banged up virtually every week, the former Tar Heel will finish the season with 31 receptions for 375 yards and three touchdowns.

Thursday's tilt against Houston, however, could have marked the last time we see Ebron in a Colts uniform.

The 2018 Pro Bowler is set to hit free agency after this season and we don't presume that Indy has plans to sign him to the lucrative deal he will likely be seeking.

In the meantime, Jack Doyle will assume the majority of tight end duties for the Colts to close out the year.
