The Chicago Cubs were just dealt a big blow.

Ace Cole Hamels left his start prior to his second inning of work on Friday, and now it's been revealed why. Hamels has a left oblique strain and will hit the 10-day IL.

The severity of Hamels' oblique strain remains unknown, but he'll undergo an MRI at which point more clarity on the situation will come.

He's been a stud in Chicago's rotation this year, recording a 2.92 ERA with 96 strikeouts across 98.2 innings of work.

He will join fellow starter Kyle Hendricks on the IL, though the Cubs are hoping that Hendricks can return in the near future.

After tonight's loss to the Reds, the Cubs' NL Central lead is smaller than ever, sitting just one-half game ahead of the Milwaukee Brewers. Now more than ever, the Cubs need a clean bill of health, but they've been dealt just the opposite.
