Chiefs Reportedly Sign TE John Phillips and Release CB Dontae Johnson
By Michael Luciano

While the Chiefs have the best tight end in the league in Travis Kelce, the loss of Demetrius Harris left a blocking tight end hole that needed to be filled.
In order to remedy that, Kansas City signed 31-year-old tight end John Phillips, who spent last season with the Arizona Cardinals. To open up a roster spot, cornerback Dontae Johnson was released.
The Chiefs, who have been looking for TE depth, signed veteran John Phillips, per source. DB Dontae Johnson was also released by KC.

Selected in the sixth round of the 2008 draft out of Virginia, Phillips has compiled 58 catches for 428 yards and four touchdowns, most of them coming with the Cowboys and Chargers. He caught just three passes for 38 yards in Arizona last season.

After a productive first few years in San Francisco, Johnson has bounced from team to team as a depth corner. Given his size (6-2, 205) it's likely he'll catch on somewhere else.
While Phillips isn't exactly Tony Gonzalez, Andy Reid is enough of an evil genius to figure out how to get the veteran involved in the offense.
