The Kansas City Chiefs, before restructuring Sammy Watkins' contract, had $177 left in cap space. The move to adjust Watkins' deal gave them a total of $3.2 million in breathing room, according to OverTheCap.com.

But now they've re-signed cornerback Bashaud Breeland, and that could create further cap issues with the NFL Draft just a couple weeks away.

Breeland was a savior for the Chiefs in 2019. He was picked up after a solid season in Green Bay and ended up appearing in all 16 games (15 starts) for the Chiefs, recording 48 total tackles, two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. Then came the postseason, in which he started all three games and recorded an interception in the Super Bowl to help the Chiefs snap their championship drought.

While his return will help the Chiefs in their quest to claim back-to-back titles, depending on his cap hit, the team will have to free up money elsewhere to make room for the incoming rookie class. Kansas City won't have to commit a lot of money to the draft considering they have five selections -- all of which are late and wont require significant salaries -- but we can guess that $2 million or so won't be enough to keep things settled.

Breeland's return provides stability for a fairly shaky secondary following the departure of Kendall Fuller, but the Chiefs still need to make an addition at cornerback while also adding flexibility for their draft picks.
