3 Chiefs Players Who Are Still Wildly Underpaid

The reigning Super Bowl champions have been gifted with stellar campaigns from some of their young studs (and a veteran or two!). As a result, the Kansas City Chiefs benefitted from throwing money at big free agents to round out their roster with stars from top to bottom. But soon enough, these guys will have to get paid and the front office will have to adjust.

Here are three players on the Chiefs who are wildly underpaid and have largely paved way for the team's success.

3. Mitchell Schwartz

In his eight-year career, Mitchell Schwartz hasn't missed a single game. He has been a mainstay along the Chiefs offensive front since his acquisition in 2016 and will only cost the Chiefs $10.8 million in 2020. He isn't even the highest-paid offensive tackle on the team. Eric Fisher is making almost $15 million in 2020, but he only played eight games in 2019. Schwartz has been the epitome of consistency for the Chiefs and deserves to be among the highest-paid in the game.

2. Damien Williams

Running back Damien Williams showed up to play in Super Bowl LIV. He accounted for two touchdowns (one rushing, one receiving) and ran for 104 yards. He only started in six games in 2019, but ran for almost 500 yards and five touchdowns. He totaled an impressive 45.3 yards on only 10.1 rushing attempts per game. Williams was a huge part of the Chiefs' Super Bowl run this past season and deserves more than a $1.85 million salary for 2020. After all, he's done an admirable job filling in ever since Kareem Hunt was released.

1. Patrick Mahomes

The amount of money Patrick Mahomes isn't making is absurd. As arguably the best quarterback in the NFL, Mahomes' base salary for 2020 is a measly $825,000 (he'll cost just over $5 million against the cap). This is a guy who won an MVP, was named an All-Pro, passed for over 5,000 yards in a single season, captured a Super Bowl and a Super Bowl MVP in his second full season as a starter. When he gets his contract extension, the NFL might explode.
