Chiefs Getting Banged up This Early in the Year is a Bad Sign for Patrick Mahomes and Tyreek Hill

Anyone viewing the box score alone tomorrow will claim that 2018 NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs coasted to another dominant win over the Jacksonville Jaguars, as Mahomes threw for 378 yards and three touchdowns in a 40-26 road victory.

The victory, however, came with a heap of added anxiety, as Mahomes hobbled off the field with what was later dubbed a sprained ankle, and Hill was taken to a hospital to investigate a shoulder injury that could sideline him for a while.

As good as Mahomes is and as creative an offensive mind as Andy Reid could be, it's hard to overcome the loss of a No. 1 wide receiver while playing with a quarterback who only has one good leg.

Sammy Watkins might have blown up with nearly 200 yards receiving and three touchdowns, and he's still a great talent at wide receiver, but the Chiefs would be foolish to expect this, or a Hill-like performance, week in and week out. If Mahomes can't feel safe and secure in his protection against fearsome units like Jacksonville, then this fan base will never be able to exhale.

Kansas City's two biggest assets, their quarterback and No. 1 wideout who signed a massive contract extension, exited Week 1 dinged up, so there are plenty of ways to put a negative spin on this game if you're a nihilistic Chiefs fan.
