Chiefs Defense Finally Didn't Need Patrick Mahomes to Save Them Against Raiders

At this point, we're used to watching Patrick Mahomes light up the highlight reel with acrobatic passes and laser beam throws.

We're also used to watching the Kansas City Chiefs' defense play like complete garbage, which is why Mahomes and the offense are always considered to be the reason they win games, which is a legitimate claim to make.

But in light of Mahomes' 443 passing yards and four touchdown performance today, the Chiefs' defense was actually quite solid today in their 28-10 win against the Oakland Raiders.

After giving up 10 points in the first quarter, it looked like the defense was ready to completely implode.

However, they managed to recover and completely shut the Raiders out over the last three quarters of the game, limiting Derek Carr to 198 passing yards while managing to intercept him twice as well.

This is a vast improvement for a defense that allowed Jacksonville Jaguars' QB Gardner Minshew to go 22-25 with 275 passing yards and two touchdowns against them last week in his NFL debut.

While the Raiders may not boast the best offense in the league, this is a team that was able to beat the Broncos last week behind a stout offensive line and a stud in the making in Josh Jacobs, who ran for 99 yards on 12 carries Sunday but was unable to find the end zone. This week, the Chiefs snuffed them out.

The Chiefs play the Baltimore Ravens next, and Andy Reid will have to draw up a plan for a dangerous and versatile Lamar Jackson if he wants to avoid a shootout.
