Chiefs CB and Return Man Tremon Smith Taking Training Camp Reps at RB
By Sam Dunn
Hope springs eternal for the Kansas City Chiefs, as they embark on their first preseason camp since falling agonizingly short of a Super Bowl berth at the hands of the New England Patriots. And with a new year comes some new looks, including one in the KC backfield.
Tremon Smith, a rising second-year defensive back and return man, has been spotted repping at running back.
Smith, a 2018 sixth-round pick out of Central Arkansas, appeared in 14 regular season games in his rookie season, starting one. He recorded just five combined tackles, but shined as a kickoff return specialist.
His 886 total kick return yards were the third-best mark in the NFL last season, and he even notched a 97-yarder in October against New England.
Clearly, he can make things happen with the ball in his hands and Andy Reid has nothing to lose in giving the kid a look on offense.
