Chiefs' Carlos Hyde Should By No Means Be on 'Roster Bubble' Already

When the Kansas City Chiefs signed Carlos Hyde to a one-year deal in March just one day after the running back had been released by the Jacksonville Jaguars, it looked like the explosive Chiefs backfield would gain another potent weapon.

And there is no reason for that to still be untrue, in spite of some recent buzz that the early offseason signing might not get a chance to suit up in Chiefs colors come the regular season anyway.

Kansas City offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has stated that Damien Williams is the starting running back, and that second place isn't exactly a 1A piece either.

Williams became the primary ball carrier in the postseason after the Chiefs cut Kareem Hunt, with the 27-year-old rushing for 129 yards in the divisional round against the Colts.

Look, even if Williams is unchallenged for the starting job, that is no excuse to give up on Hyde, who even in his struggles in 2018 with the Cleveland Brows and Jacksonville Jaguars, is still a reliable back.

And with Darell Williams, rookie Darwin Thompson, and James Williams further down the depth chart at the position, there should be no reason to dump the $2.8 million deal of the more experienced Hyde. He is by far the more seasoned of all the backups. Given his cheap price tag, KC can and should find a role for him.
