Chiefs and Chris Jones Nowhere Close on Deal and Inching Toward Standoff Next Summer
By Michael Luciano

We're smack dab in the middle of a heated contract dispute between the Houston Texans and star pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney. We could be headed for one next year if Kansas City and defensive tackle Chris Jones can't agree on a deal.
The Chiefs and Jones are not close on any kind of long-term contract, and this dispute could spill over into what could be a hectic 2020 NFL offseason.
No news now or expected anytime soon on Chris Jones and the Chiefs. Assuming neither side budges (and I’m hearing they’re way apart) another strong season by Jones would mean a good ol’ fashioned franchise tag stand-off next summer.

With a Patrick Mahomes extension inevitable and having already locked up Frank Clark long term, Brett Veach might not have the money to sate Jones' appetite.
He's clearly earned this big payday. The former second-round pick out of Mississippi State broke out last season when he recorded 15.5 sacks as a defensive tackle on a Chiefs team that almost made it to the Super Bowl.

While Jones might be the most talented player on that defense, the absurd amount of money Veach will have to spend on Mahomes and his offensive line could ultimately force Jones to seek a bigger deal elsewhere. Get ready for 2020, Chiefs fans. It's going to be messy.
