Los Angeles Chargers GM Tom Telesco isn't handling the extension talks with disgruntled star running back Melvin Gordon in the best way, as the two sides are no closer on any sort of long-term contract. In fact, if you can believe it, they're probably farther apart.

Telesco has given up on trying to reach a deal with Gordon, and will try to re-negotiate after the season.

In just 12 games last season, Gordon rushed for 885 yards and 10 touchdowns while adding 490 yards and 5 scores as a receiver.

He has more than earned a huge contract, but Los Angeles' hesitance to pay a running back the type of money he's asking for when they also have to consider contract extensions for other young stars is making any sort of long-term deal nearly impossible to agree upon.

Unless Gordon has a serious change of heart and rejoins the team, it looks like these two parties are headed for a divorce and the Chargers will move forward with Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson this season.
