Shortly after the NBA announced its hiatus amid the coronavirus outbreak, the Boston Celtics declared that tickets purchased for suspended games would be recognized once the league sorted out its schedule.

Additionally, fans that purchased tickets for games that are canceled or played without fans would be reimbursed in full. Most would argue that the Celtics hadn't put a foot wrong with their management of this unforeseen dilemma.

Unfortunately, that narrative has turned on its head. Per the Boston Globe, the Celtics informed 2020-21 season ticket holders that they are moving forward and processing payments on Friday.

Fans have every right to be furious and we sincerely hope that the Celtics walk back their shockingly narcissistic intentions. You can't even defend the franchise by claiming that it isn't aware of the severity of COVID-19.

These automated payments for next season started back in February, and the fact that the Celtics have yet to conform to this unprecedented time is egregious. Hundreds of thousands of people, and that is not an exaggeration, are being crippled financially by this global pandemic.

Each passing day sees more and more businesses temporarily suspending operations. It's gutting to think about the number of workers that are getting laid off because employers can't afford to keep paying them.

For the Celtics to expect any fan to feel comfortable locking in season tickets for next season, with so much economic uncertainty, is simply inexplicable. It isn't too late for Boston to correct its massive blunder, but the organization better act fast.
