Major League Baseball is always up for trying to expand their brand into new markets, with England looking like a particularly fertile ground that could become a hotbed for baseball affinity if marketed correctly. Their "London Series" games meant to introduce the Brits to baseball has been put on hold, however, due to the coronavirus.

The 2020 London Series, which was set to feature the St. Louis Cardinals taking on the Chicago Cubs in one of baseball's most classic rivalries, has been cancelled as the MLB looks to find a creative way to restart their season once the pandemic calms down. The games, should the season start relatively soon, will be played in St. Louis.

The good news for fans in England? The Cubs and Cardinals will head back to London in 2021.

The 2019 series, which featured the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox, was one of the most zany exhibition series in baseball history, with home runs being launched like it was an early 2000s Coors Field game.

Any chance the MLB had at making an impression in the English sports landscape in 2020 has been officially cancelled, and the league will have to wait until 2021 to cross the Atlantic once again.
