Cam Newton hasn't played since Week 2, but his 2019 campaign can now officially be declared over. On Monday, he went under the knife to repair a foot ailment.

The Carolina Panthers quarterback officially underwent surgery in New York to correct a Lisfranc injury.

Carolina lost both of their first two games against the Rams and Buccaneers in which Newton started, but it was clear that he was playing at less than 100%. Since then, the Panthers have leaned on former Houston Cougars quarterback Kyle Allen, who started off hot but has quickly been exposed as a questionable starter since then.

Newton seemingly has plenty left in the tank, but injuries and the financial complications of his contract could force the Panthers to cut bait with the former No. 1 overall pick and explore offseason trades.

Given how his foot injury looks, it appears increasingly likely that Cam will be playing elsewhere in 2020, and Carolina will hitch their wagon to either Allen or Will Grier next season.
