Byron Jones seems to be progressing well in his rehab from offseason hip surgery.

After initially anticipating he would start training camp on the Physically Unable to Perform list, the star cornerback believes that he could be back on the field by the time camp gets underway.

Getting back at the start of camp would be a big victory for the Cowboys, who are hard at work this offseason in hopes of a second-straight NFC East title, as well as a run deep into the playoffs.

Jones plays a pivotal role in constructing Dallas' defensive identity, so his health is of the utmost importance.

Per Pro Football Talk, Jones said, "I want to be back with my teammates and play in the preseason games. That's the target."

Jones, who joined the league in 2015 via a first-round draft pick by the Cowboys, has never missed a game in his four-year career. He's started 59 of the 64 games he's played in, and has recorded 2 interceptions across his career.

In 2018, he logged 14 pass breakups, a career-high, as well as 67 total tackles. While his ball hawking skills aren't among the league's best, he's elite in coverage and challenges receivers on every throw.

The news of his pacy recovery will certainly please Cowboys fans, as he should certainly be back at full strength for the regular season.
