The Buffalo Bills Are One Move Away From Winning the Offseason

After finishing second in the AFC East and making a playoff appearance in the Wild Card round, the Bills are looking to build off of that and go even further come 2020.

Buffalo’s biggest move of the spring was trading its first-round pick in order to acquire former Vikings wide receiver Stefon Diggs. General manager Brandon Beane made a number of other moves to address roster deficiencies as well.

But right now, Buffalo is just one free-agent signing away from winning the offseason and putting the NFL on notice.

Picking up former Saint Larry Warford would be critical for Buffalo. In the Bayou, Warford opened up running lanes for Alvin Kamara and helped to keep QB Drew Brees (and Teddy Bridgewater) upright to make plays down the field. If Buffalo takes a chance on Warford, he can open up holes in the run game for young backs Devin Singletary and Zack Moss as well as keep the pocket clean for QB Josh Allen. They can cut ties with Jon Feliciano and save a few million there too.

But if the Bills decide to pass on Warford, there's another direction they can go in.

Jadeveon Clowney’s price tag has gone down significantly (we'd like to think) as the offseason has dragged on. If he's willing to take less money, Buffalo could add to a pass rush that already features Ed Oliver, Jerry Hughes, Trent Murphy and Star Lotuleilei. With the losses of Jordan Phillips and Shaq Lawson in free agency, Buffalo should look to reinforce its edge rush and outside run containment. If they have to, they can release Murphy to save around $8 million against the cap.

If Buffalo truly wants to take the AFC East away from New England, it needs to go ahead and open negotiations with Warford to solidify the offensive line or Clowney to add to a stout defensive line. The time is now.
