Less than two weeks after Bubba Wallace helped successfully push NASCAR to ban the Confederate flag from its races and tracks in the aftermath of George Floyd's death, it appears that a few sick individuals decided to retaliate.

Wallace, who is the only black driver in NASCAR's top circuit, released a powerful message on Twitter after a noose was found in his team's garage stall at Sunday's race.

This is yet another disturbing example that proves the sport's long overdue statement against racism hasn't sat well with a certain population of fans. On Sunday, a small plane was seen flying over the Talladega Superspeedway with a Confederate flag banner that said "defund NASCAR."

After learning of Wallace's findings, NASCAR took to Twitter to confirm that it has decided to launch an immediate investigation.

"We are angry and outraged, and cannot state strongly enough how seriously we take this heinous act," read a portion of the statement. "We will do everything we can to identify the person(s) responsible and eliminate them from the sport."

Wallace has been outspoken across the last few weeks regarding the Black Lives Matter movement and the corresponding protests, and it's clear that fans who hold different beliefs are going out of their way to (attempt to) frighten him.

As the 26-year-old Wallace asserted in his statement, he won't back down and this reprehensible act will only give him more fuel to continue the fight against racism.
