It was largely expected within the baseball landscape that Bruce Bochy, despite announcing his retirement ahead of the 2019 season in spring training, just wouldn't be able to walk away from the game that delivered him three world championships during his tenure with the San Francisco Giants.

While it's apparent that Bochy won't manage another game for the Bay Area club, the 64-year-old revealed on Thursday in an interview with Chris “Mad Dog” Russo on Sirius/XM that he'd like one more shot in the big leagues.

“I’m just hitting the pause button, that’s all,” said the former Manager of the Year. “Taking a little sabbatical here for a year. Then I’ll see where I’m at. I don’t know how I’m going to feel, but I’d love to have one more shot.”

It seems like Bochy is taking a year off from the game before entering his name back into contention for a managerial position.

We love that he's taking some time for himself and we'd be ecstatic to see him manning a dugout for another season, but this offseason boasted EIGHT managerial vacancies.

While more skippers are likely to be canned upon the conclusion of 2020, we sincerely doubt that Bochy will have eight clubs around MLB looking to hire a manager.

The pool of openings is likely to sink a bit come next year, but, at least for now, Bochy is keeping his feet in the water.
