Brodie Van Wagenen Sends Message to Mets Fans Following Trade Deadline Drama

The New York Mets were able to make a bit of a splash in free agency, acquiring MLB All-Star Marcus Stroman and dealing Jason Vargas to the Philadelphia Phillies, suggesting that the Amazins have pivoted to win-now mode.

Front office boss Brodie Van Wagenen would echo this sentiment to New York fans via Twitter, updating the faithful on the current status of the team and their plans going forward.

When haven't the Mets been "underdogs," though?

Van Wagenen has done his best to try to build a contender since he took over, starting by trading for Robinson Cano and Edwin Diaz prior to the start of the season. However, these two have not performed the way he had hoped -- the former due to injuries and the latter due to uncharacteristic struggles on the mound -- and extra reinforcements were needed.

Enter Stro Show, a Long Island native who was built for the bright lights.

Stroman is a significant upgrade to the team's rotation over Vargas, who was inefficient for much of the year while also causing problems in the locker room.

Could this be the move the Mets needed to push them over the hump? That's easier said than done given the competition in the NL playoff hunt, but you can't blame Brodie for doing his best with what he was given.
