Win some, lose some. In this case, it was a loss turned into a big win for Brian Hoyer.

Two days after getting cut by the Patriots after he lost the backup quarterback battle to rookie Jarrett Stidham, the veteran has signed with the Indianapolis Colts to back up Jacoby Brissett.

Oh, and Hoyer is getting paid handsomely to do it.

From the unemployment line to $9 million in guarantees. Yeah, sign me up for that.

Hoyer instantly becomes the Colts backup QB behind Brissett, who was inserted into the starting role when Andrew Luck retired. The Colts had Brock Osweiler in for a visit last week and also had Phillip Walker and Chad Kelly in camp. But let's be honest, none of those three are stable or knowledgable enough to be a good backup.

Hoyer, meanwhile, brings starting experience (37 starts in his career), stability and knowledge having played with the Patriots a few times. That's what the Colts need now and they're paying Hoyer handsomely for his services.
