Brewers Are Pretty Much Screwed With Universal DH Rule Taking Effect in 2020

As part of their proposal to cram a full season worth of excitement into a truncated schedule, the MLB has proposed a universal DH for the 2020 campaign, which could be problematic for a few National League teams that didn't construct their rosters with a designated hitter in mind.

One team that will be hit particularly hard by this is the Milwaukee Brewers, who currently sport a lineup consisting of Christian Yelich and mostly a bunch of flotsam riding his coattails.

There are some promising hitters, with Keston Hiura, Lorenzo Cain and Avisail Garcia ready to rock. However, this team is still leaning on an aging Ryan Braun in the heart of the order. Losing boppers like Travis Shaw and Eric Thames, both of whom would be ideal for a DH role, further twists the knife.

If Yelich misses any amount of time, this season could become even more of a disaster for Milwaukee.

The Brewers were already struggling to find complementary pieces to play alongside Yelich and Hiura, but adding a DH to the mix will leave them down yet another impact player.
