Brewers Pitching Takes Another Hit as Milwaukee Places Jhoulys Chacin on IL

As the Milwaukee Brewers look to stay ahead of the Chicago Cubs in the NL Central, they'll have to do so without two substantial contributors in their starting rotation.

One day after placing pitcher Gio Gonzalez on the 10-Day IL, the struggling Jhoulys Chacin is suffering the same fate with a back strain.

Chacin made no mention of an injury after his latest start, and he's certainly been struggling of late. Could this merely be a way of working on his mechanics in the minors?

With his latest defeat at the hands of Pittsburgh, Chacin fell to just 3-7 on the season with a grotesque 5.74 ERA in 12 starts, which is a substantial sample size. This is a far cry from his previous form, as he was coined the Brewers ace in 2018.

In his place, the Brew Crew will call up RHP Jacob Barnes and Taylor Williams from Triple-A San Antonio to help out in relief. Considering the likelihood of a taxed bullpen in the neat future due to their starting pitching woes, this is a sound strategy by Milwaukee moving forward.
