Things just went from bad to worse at Citi Field.

New York Mets outfielder Yoenis Cespedes had been nursing a heel injury that ws supposed to keep him sidelined until August. August seems like a pipe dream after Cespedes told his team he had broken his right ankle during an accident at his ranch in Florida.

Cespedes suffered what was called a "violent fall" and then injured his ankle when it got stuck in a hole. GM Brodie Van Wagenen confirmed that it was indeed a non-baseball activity that caused it. While he offered no timeline for his recovery, the combination of a serious heel injury and a broken ankle likely means that he's out for the season-- and could even miss parts of 2020 as well.

Freak accidents are the worst. We won't see him, his powerful stroke, or his cannon arm for at least one more year. What's even more concerning is the distinct possibility that la Potencia will never be the player he was pre-injury.
