In a move of desperation, the Atlanta Braves have signed veteran shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria while Dansby Swanson is still out with a bruised heel.

That was rumored earlier today, but the additional roster moves to make room for Hechavarria are a bit shocking as outfielder Adam Duvall and infielder Johan Camargo have been optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett.

Atlanta also recalled right-handed pitcher Bryse Wilson.

Signing Hechavarria makes a lot of sense for Atlanta, as you can rely on his defensive ability, something the Braves desperately need up the middle without Swanson.

Camargo was having struggles on both sides of the ball, and since he has minor league options remaining, you can understand why he was sent down to get consistent playing time to stay fresh.

Duvall's demotion is a little shocking, as Nick Markakis is still out with a fractured wrist. Additionally, the former All-Star has had his moments in the middle of the lineup, hitting .250 with 5 home runs and 10 RBI over 19 games (68 at-bats).

The Braves hope Hechavarria can bring that Gold Glove-caliber defense he's known for, as his offense is nothing to write home about. He's slashed just .204/.252/.359 with 5 home runs and 18 RBI over 60 games with the New York Mets.
