Plenty of MLB teams are already moving in the direction of extending netting down the first and third base lines to protect fans, and on Monday, the Atlanta Braves announced they are extending netting all the way down to the foul poles.

Barring any setbacks, the project should be finished by the end of September.

I'm sure some people who go to a lot of games and sit down the lines hate this, but it's necessary. Fans are closer to the on-field action than they've ever been before, and whether you are wearing a glove or not, it's difficult to have the reaction time to protect yourself, a family member or neighboring fan from getting hit with a screaming foul ball.

You can complain about "not seeing the game," but fans who sit behind the net now seem to have a good time and it's better than someone getting severely hurt and going to the hospital, especially young kids.
