Boomer Esiason is decidedly not a fan of Tom Brady's money-grabbing antics.

After the latest episode this week, he ripped into the New England Patriots quarterback for attempting to trademark former New York Mets star Tom Seaver's nickname "Tom Terrific."

"I love Tom Seaver...I've been advocating for a Seaver statue forever, since Citi Field opened...And now, lo and behold, comes the greatest quarterback of all time trying to trademark the name 'Tom Terrific,'" he said.

"I am disgusted, and I'm really surprised...I don't know, it just feels sleazy to me, you know?"

For all the personal emotions Esiason ties to Seaver, he has a perfectly valid point. Tom Brady has plenty of money and can live off of his own name for the rest of his life. There's no need for him to go around trademarking nicknames.

Additionally, Seaver is in dire straits at the moment, having retired from public life earlier this year while announcing he's suffering from dementia. This controversy is the last thing he needs; certainly, his nickname is one of the few things Seaver has left in maintaining his legacy. It has an impact on his family's future earning power, especially if Brady can step in to prevent them trafficking in a moniker that should rightfully be there's.

Sure, Brady has built up a reputation fitting of the nickname, but he did it long after Seaver. Also, nobody calls him that.

Mets fans have a right to be incensed about the debacle. Seaver earned the nickname decades ago, and seeing one of the most hated athletes in professional sports attempt to trademark it feels wrong.

Regardless of his intentions, Brady should have at least thought twice about giving deference to the iconic pitcher.
