The Chicago Cubs drafted hometown kid Ed Howard in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft. A teenager who grew up and played high school ball in Chicago makes for an easy angle for baseball writers. Howard also happened to be a legitimate top prospect, so his selection was far from a surprise.

Leave it to MLB writer Bob Nightengale, however, to tweet out something ridiculous in reaction to the pick. He did just that regarding Howard, who happens to be African-American.

So... Nightengale seems to believe the Cubs drafted Howard as some sort of anti-racism solidarity move? Are we reading this right? That belief in itself is offensive given how talented Howard is as a baseball player.

Those reading the tweet must also look past the typo of "hallow."

Perhaps the most insane aspect of this is that Nightengale did not delete the tweet. He simply continued on.

We can't really argue with that part of it, but still!

Once again, Howard was a highly-regarded prospect. He played high school baseball in the city of Chicago, and the Cubs obviously had their eye on him for his talent. All told, that's what we ought to be focusing on.
