Bill O'Brien Should Be Fired for How He Handled Jadeveon Clowney Trade

Bill O'Brien's tenure with the Houston Texans has been a mixed bag. He's taken the team to the playoffs multiple times under his watchful eye, but they haven't done much once they've gotten there. His management of a roster loaded with talent has also been less than desirable for fans.

But, the way he handled Jadeveon Clowney's contract and subsequent trade was and is atrocious. The man totally butchered Clowney's standing with the team, and considering what he got in return for him, he should absolutely be fired.

He and the Texans kicked the contract can down the road with Clowney for his entire tenure with the team, despite the fact that he was their most productive player on defense not named JJ Watt. They had no idea what to do with him.

As a result, it became necessary to trade Clowney because after all, it's better to get something for him rather than getting nothing when he walks in free agency.

Except they pretty much got nothing in return. In exchange for a borderline generational talent who has racked up 24.5 sacks over the last three seasons, O'Brien managed to bring back a rather depressing haul of a third-round pick, linebacker Jacob Martin and pass-rusher Barkevious Mingo.

Martin, a sixth-round pick in 2018, managed three sacks in 16 games last year. Mingo put up just one sack and 48 total tackles. The two of them combined produced less than Clowney did on his own.

And to top it all off, nothing in the return package fills a position of need. The Texans desperately needed help on the offensive line and were reportedly close to bringing in Laremy Tunsil from Miami in exchange for Clowney, but instead they settled for this sub-par return.

It's highway robbery on the part of the Seahawks and absolute buffoonery on the part of O'Brien.
