The Belk Bowl Just Got a Brand New Weird Sponsor and We're Not Sure How We Feel

NCAA Football Bowl names have grown into one of the sport's most interesting trends. While there are those with long and prestigious histories such as the Rose Bowl, others fall victim to constant chintzy sponsorship switches, like the Cheez-It Bowl.

Since 2002, the Belk Bowl has pitted an ACC team against one from the SEC. While the matchup has remained largely the same, the name has gone in a whole new direction as of Thursday morning.

Well, then.

Not only did Duke's Mayo take over a Bowl game, but they also earned a regular-season kick-off matchup in their name, known as the Duke's Mayo Classic.

For those who may not know, Duke's Mayo is a growing mayonnaise company that began in South Carolina, not too far from the site of the Bowl game at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte.

But even if you have never heard of the name before, they were able to bring in former Panther Luke Kuechly in for an official advertisement to debut the new Bowl game, so it must be pretty important.

It's a bit of a strange name, but the college football faithful will adopt it over time, especially if their favorite teams win the battle in Charlotte. And we're still nowhere near the oddity of the now-departed Bad Boy Mowers Gasparilla Bowl, that's for sure.
