Bears Reportedly Make Sweeping Changes to Offensive Staff Including Hiring John DeFilippo as QB Coach

The Chicago Bears continued to retool their coaching staff on offense after missing out on the playoffs, and they added one of the biggest coaching free agents to do so.

Former Jaguars OC and Philadelphia Eagles quarterback coach John DeFilippo was named as the Bears' QB coach on Wednesday. 2019 quarterback coach Dave Ragone has been promoted to passing game coordinator. This comes just days after they hired former Cincinnati Bengals OC Bill Lazor to the same position.

DeFilippo has been fired as offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings and Jacksonville Jaguars in back-to-back seasons, but he was responsible for getting some career-best numbers out of Kirk Cousins and grooming Gardner Minshew.

Nagy seems to have realized that the likes of Mark Helfrich weren't getting it done, and a shakeup is needed to get the most out of Mitch Trubisky, who regressed in shocking fashion last year.

With three guys that can generate productive numbers from a quarterback in their sleep now at the controls on offense, Trubisky is officially out of excuses.
