The Chicago Bears have not had the most exciting of offseasons so far, though not for necessarily bad reasons ever since they made the decision to trade for Nick Foles. General manager Ryan Pace has been hard at work finding ways to improve, and although his latest addition isn't the flashiest name, it ought to be met with optimism.

Thursday afternoon, news broke that the Bears were signing safety Tashaun Gipson to a one-year deal. He'll have his chance to be a more-than-capable defensive starter at Soldier Field in 2020.

2020 will be Gipson's nineth season in an already solid NFL career. He made a Pro Bowl appearance for the Browns in 2014, and has been a productive defender in the years since then. Last season for the Texans, Gipson snagged three interceptions while participating in 81% of defensive snaps.

Gipson joins a solid Bears secondary that allowed just 222.1 passing yards per game in 2019, the ninth-best figure in the NFL. The Bears also added defensive end Robert Quinn in free agency this offseason, adding even more strength to an already stout defense.

Although the Bears' offense may still be in need of help, coach Matt Nagy looks ready to lead another strong defensive unit in Chicago, and Gipson won't hurt them one bit in their pursuit of that goal.
