The Baltimore Ravens have proven themselves as one of the most consistent NFL squads of the 21st century. Super Bowl wins in calendar years 2001 and 2013, along with consistent winning records, have shown that the Ravens have the right foundation in place. Despite recent success, however, the Ravens have experienced their fair share of players who showed great promise only to fail to catch on as NFL stars in a Baltimore uniform.

1. Justin Forsett

After the whole Ray Rice debacle at the beginning of the 2014 regular season, the Ravens were desperate for a quick fix to come in and fill in some of the rushing production that was lost due to Rice's release. Justi Forsett had a truly impressive season with Baltimore, stacking up 1,266 rushing yards and eight touchdowns, and the Ravens seemed as if they had lucked into a high-level running back that would be the future at the position. Despite the high hopes, Forsett only played one more season with Baltimore and announced his retirement in May 2017.

2. Trent Dilfer

Although former quarterback Trent Dilfer had some statistical success with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before landing in Baltimore in 2000, he was viewed as a middling, inconsistent quarterback and threw too many interceptions. Dilfer had also suffered a serious injury before getting to Baltimore, missed a good chunk of the 1999 season. He managed to win the starting job in his new home, and though he did not put up monster statistics, he managed to lead the Ravens all the way to a Super Bowl title. The next year, Baltimore decided not to re-sign their champion quarterback. Dilfer went on to play a few more serviceable seasons in Seattle, Cleveland, and San Francisco, but never reached anywhere near the heights of the 2000 Ravens.

3. Terrance West

After the one-and-done breakout performance of Justin Forsett, the Ravens had another running back in Terrance West who had one terrific season before petering out. West had only played in six games for Baltimore in the previous season and mustered 180 rushing yards. West then came flying out of the gate in the 2016 regular season, playing in all 16 regular season games. In that season, West rushed for 774 yards and five touchdowns. His success was not sustained., He only played one more season with the Ravens after that, and has not played in an NFL game since.
