At This Point, Mitch Marner Would Be Dumb to Leave Maple Leafs

Mitch Marner has been the Toronto Maple Leafs' top priority this offseason. They've constructed their roster in such a way that it's both appealing and accommodating enough to bring him back.

Frankly at this point, Marner would be downright dumb to leave the Maple Leafs and sign as an RFA elsewhere.

The Leafs shored up their defensive depth by acquiring the likes of Cody Ceci and Tyson Barrie this offseason. They also bolstered their offensive attack on the wings by adding Alexander Kerfoot.

Everything about the Leafs screams contender for next year. The only piece their missing is Mitch Marner, who is a restricted free agent. Any team that offers him a contract would have to give Toronto a chance to match, and considering the aforementioned acquisitions they've made, he'd be foolish not to stick with them.

All it would take to accommodate a possible Marner contract would be a deal to send William Nylander away.

Few teams can match the promise that the Leafs have heading into next season. They've got the aforementioned depth on defense, a strong goaltender in Frederik Andersen, and plenty of offensive firepower in John Tavares and Auston Matthews.

There's nothing to hate and everything to love if you're Marner. Teams like the Blue Jackets can't match what Toronto has going for them right now.

If he knows what's good for him, he'll put an end to all of the drama surrounding his restricted free agency and just sign back with the Leafs once they get their financials straight.
