The coronavirus pandemic continues to impact millions across the globe, and over the weekend it imposed its relentlessness on the sports world in tragic fashion. Anthony Causi, a truly beloved sports photographer for the New York Post, passed away on Sunday due to COVID-19. He was 48 years old.

Causi covered the city's many teams for over 20 years, and perhaps his greatest contributions were capturing two of the most iconic Yankees moments of all time: the famous shot of shortstop Derek Jeter walking into the clubhouse and the equally memorable image of closer Mariano Rivera moments after emerging from the bullpen.

Who could forget those gems?

Those two pictures perfectly encapsulate the sheer craftsmanship Causi exemplified. He was a regular at Yankee Stadium, Citi Field, Madison Square Garden, and the Barclays Center, and was well-known for his boxing, soccer, and mixed martial arts photographs as well.

Not only was Causi a respected figure in the media industry, but he was also admired by the players whose stories he chronicled. This touching tweet from former Yankees and Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson, for instance, says it all.

New York lost a great one. There's really no other way to put it.

We send our deepest condolences to Causi's family during this most difficult of times.
