Angel Hernandez Needs to Be Removed From MLB Umpire Rotation Immediately

It's almost become comical how many times MLB umpire Angel Hernandez has made a fool out of himself, but the problem remains: he's impacting outcomes of games.

Hernandez was the home plate umpire Tuesday night in the Yankees-Blue Jays game, and once again, he made a major blunder that further proves he shouldn't be in the MLB umpire rotation. I mean, how did you not see this as a strike?

Not calling that a strike to Blue Jays outfielder Randal Grichuk changed the entire complexion of the at-bat, where he ended up taking Masahiro Tanaka deep for a solo shot. That was the beginning of what would be a four-run inning for Toronto, which was the difference in the game as the Jays defeated New York, 4-3.

But that wasn't his only mistake.

I don't expect any umpire to get every pitch correct. They are humans and it's a tough job. However, there should be no lenience for missing pitches that are right down the middle. That was not borderline or up for interpretation.

If Hernandez and incompetent umpires like him are going to be around for the long haul, maybe MLB should seek outside, robotic help. I'm all for the human element, but if I can see that's a strike sitting at home, he shouldn't be missing it either.
