The St. Louis Cardinals are gearing up for the 2020 season after fizzling out in the NLDS in 2019, as they were swept by the Nationals.

Well, with bigger aspirations next year, the Cards have re-signed veteran hurler Adam Wainwright, who pitched phenomenally in the postseason. MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal has now revealed the details of Wainwright's new one-year contract in St. Louis.

Per Rosenthal, Wainwright will make $5 million in salary for the 2020 season and could stand to double that intake through incentives.

That's a bargain of a deal for the veteran, though the 38-year-old does come with a bit of injury risk, having recorded fewer than 30 starts in three of the past six seasons.

Last season, Wainwright recorded 31 starts, going 14-10 with a 4.19 ERA and 153 strikeouts across 171.2 innings. It was his best season since his All-Star campaign in 2014, and thus the Cards rewarded him with the $5 million deal.

In the 2019 playoffs, Wainwright made three appearances and logged an impressive 1.62 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 16.2 innings, and he could prove valuable in another postseason run for the Cardinals.
