ACC Admits They Made the Wrong Call Not Giving UNC One Final Play Against Wake Forest

Friday night's slate of college football games did not disappoint, but the UNC-Wake Forest clash grabbed all of the headlines for all of the wrong reasons.

The Tar Hells ended up falling 24-18 to the Demon Deacons after North Carolina tailback Michael Carter ran out of bounds with one second remaining...only the refs ruled he was down before then and permitted the clock to run out. It was clear, to literally everybody involved but the game's referees, that UNC was deserving of one more play. Somehow, however, it wasn't meant to be and Wake walked away with a win.

Fast forward to Saturday, and Dennis Hennigan, the ACC's Coordinator of Football Officiating, released a statement in which the zebras' bizarre blunder was admitted.

And the winner for least shocking news ever goes to...

It's genuinely exasperating how these gaffes are always realized 24 hours after the fact. With just 43 yards to go, North Carolina would have been in surefire range to attempt a potential game-winning Hail Mary on the final play.

Sure, the Heels' chances of winning were slim (at the very best) but the fact of the matter is that they were deprived of an impartial ending.

We'll never know what could have happened.
