Aaron Hicks Started Throwing and Practicing Without the Yankees' Permission and it Worked

Aaron Hicks was suppose to be done for the year because of an elbow injury. That's what we all thought, anyway, but it really sounds like he's getting healthy and could return for the ALCS.

Why? Because he didn't listen to the team and decided to start a throwing program without their permission-- and it actually worked. From there, Hicks sent a video of his progress to the team's training staff, and they said he was fine to continue throwing.

Can you imagine if it didn't work and he made the injury worse? I guess that doesn't matter now, but his suddenly clean bill of health gives the Yankees another decision to make when it comes to their outfield construction for the ALCS against the winner of tonight's win-or-go-home meeting between the Rays and Astros.

Hicks is a plus defender and has shown that he can swing the bat with authority, but given how Brett Garnder and Cameron Maybin are playing, it's not a guarantee that he makes the roster. At the very least, he does give the Yankees a viable replacement if an injury occurs.
