Unfortunately for Oklahoma Sooners fans out there, the New Year has arrived with some pretty disappointing news. Ranked a 5-star quarterback and the No. 1 pro-style signal caller in the country for 2021, Brock Vandagriff looked all set to suit up for Lincoln Riley down the road.

However, the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder has had a change of heart and announced on Wednesday he has backed off his verbal pledge.

Out of Bogart, Georgia, the QB committed to the Sooners in June over a loaded offers list. Other schools that have put a scholarship on the table include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Auburn and many others.

Vandagriff is a three-sport athlete, but is known around the country already for his rocket arm.

Before committing to the Sooners, his other finalists were Florida, Georgia, Auburn, Clemson and Tennessee. Expect coaches from those programs to get on the horn ASAP now that he's no longer Oklahoma-bound.
